Get to Know Us
Seattle Outboard Association is a Pacific Northwest outboard hydroplane and runabout racing club. SOA is an affiliate of the American Power Boat Association, which sanctions and insures boat racing throughout the United States. SOA was founded in 1929 and is one of the oldest racing cubs in APBA. Our club races outboard classes ranging from 40mph to 100mph. Our junior category starts kids racing boats at age 9. Motor sizes range from restricted 15HP 2-stroke fishing engines with racing lower unit to a tricked out 350cc Professional motor going over 100mph. Our biggest participation class is the C stock hydroplane class. CSH will go between 65-70mph with a 30hp Japanese Yamato engine. 300ss hydro is a great class for beginners with sealed Yamato engines and every racer has identical propellers that are rotated at each race. SOA races Junior, Stock, Modified, and Professional category of hydroplanes and runabouts. If you wish to learn more about each category, please click the APBA category links for more information.
